Veteran Leeds Rhinos prop-forward Kylie Leuluai is facing up to six weeks on the sidelines after being told he needs surgery.

The 37-year-old has not played since the defeat at Warrington Wolves a month ago and coach Brian McDermott said: “He is going to have an operation on a shoulder.

“We thought it was his biceps that was the problem, but he’s actually got a bit of floating tissue in his shoulder which he’s going to have cleaned out.

“He will be out for anything from between four to six weeks, which by his standards is three.”

McDermott had feared Leuluai could be out for three months, if he needed an operation on an arm.

“It’s great news,” McDermott said of the relatively short recovery time. “He has still got an important role to play with us.

“I think we’ve missed him over Easter, not just the extra body, but some of the direct carries he gives you.”

McDermott confirmed Rhinos came through yesterday’s 28-18 win at Salford Red Devils with no new injuries.

It was Rhinos’ third game in 10 days and he said: “Surprisingly, everybody is okay and relatively fresh.”
