Leeds Rhinos v Huddersfield Giants - Richard Agar targets simplicity from Rhinos in order to get better of struggling Giants

Leeds Rhinos head coach Richard Agar says it has been “difficult” to prepare for Huddersfield Giants tonight.

His club should have played twice in the past nine days but saw games against both Wakefield Trinity and Catalans Dragons postponed after their opponents saw players test positive for coronavirus.

With that in mind, Leeds have had plenty of time to get ready to face Giants, who they beat 27-26 in their first game back after shutdown last month.

“It’s not too long since we played Huddersfield,” said Agar, whose side trailed 26-6 with just 17 minutes left before staging a remarkable comeback to win in Golden Point extra-time that day.

“But since then they’ve had different half-back combinations pretty much every week, different full-backs every week – there’s certainly been some differences in their games.

“Against us they dominated for 60 minutes and against Warrington (a 19-18 loss) I thought they competed really well. They’ve probably under-performed in a couple of games so it has been a mixed bag and that makes them difficult to prepare for.

“We are still unaware of their team situation so we have very much put the focus on what we felt was a strong step in the right direction against Salford.”

Leeds defeated Salford 50-12 in their last outing and are looking to now build on that display against a struggling Huddersfield side aiming to avoid a fifth straight defeat.

“We have been littered with errors over the first three weeks and against Salford we managed to simplify it and play the new style of game a bit better than we had been,” added Agar.

“We know we have got a bit of work to do, after the opening two or three rounds.”
