Leigh Centurions 36 Keighley Cougars 18: Cougars lose after bright beginning

Keighley Cougars remain rooted to the bottom of the Championship after Leigh scored a seven-try victory over Barry Eaton's side.

Prop Ryan Benjafield put Leigh on the back foot in a promising start for the visitors and Jon Presley shuffled the ball left where James Hutchinson dived over.

However, quickfire tries from Stuart Donlan and Dave Alstead handed Leigh a 10-4 lead.

Two more tries followed for Leigh before the break as David Armitstead and Matty Blythe scored for Nanyn to add goals and open a 20-4 half-time lead.

The second half saw Presley immediately turn provider for Benjafield to gallop through a small hole in the defence. Danny Jones made it 49 consecutive scoring games with the conversion before another glut of Centurion points saw them build a 36-10 lead.

Blythe got his second and he was followed by Martyn Ridyard and John Duffy but Leigh rarely threatened again after Ridyard saw a 'try' disallowed.

Jones saw a 'try' ruled out at the other end but Keighley finished strongly after opposing props Brendan Rawlins and Jacob Emmitt were sin-binned for a bout of fisticuffs.

Never-say-die winger Gavin Duffy claimed both late tries for Cougars to take his tally to nine for the season but it was not enough for Keighley as they fell to their 10th loss of the season.
