Leigh Centurions 40 Halifax 46 - Worrincy keeps 'Fax in contention at top

Eight-try Halifax kept in touch with the top two in the Championship after a deserved victory at fellow title contenders Leigh Centurions.

Beaten 48-10 at home by Leigh in March, the tables were turned as Rob Worrincy grabbed a hat-trick and Halifax's win came on the back of some excellent link work from half-backs Luke Branighan and Ben Black.

Halifax took the lead when, after a break down the left, Leigh were still recovering when Black collected a pass on the half volley and shot through a hole to go under the posts. Lee Paterson kicked the first of seven goals but as the half went on play went from end to end.

The visitors grabbed further first-half tries from Dylan Nash, top scorer Shad Royston and Worrincy, that after the winger stole the ball in a one-on-one tackle from Mick Nanyn and sprinted 70 metres downfield.

Leigh responded with tries from Steve Maden, Tommy Goulden and Stuart Donlan to stay in touch at half-time. Shortly after the break Paul White scored in the corner but Leigh again hit back through Mike Morrison and then Maden.

Three consecutive Halifax tries turned the game their way as Black went in before Worrincy grabbed a smart hat-trick and although further late tries came from Martyn Ridyard and David Armitstead, the visitors deservedly won.
