Loan deal to Wakefield could be on cards for out-of-favour Cooke

Wakefield Trinity are in talks to sign Hull Kingston Rovers stand-off Paul Cooke on a season-long loan.

Trinity coach John Kear is a long-time admirer of the 28-year-old and hopes they will be reunited after previously working together at Hull FC.

Kear said: "We would love to sign him. He is out of contract in the summer. We have made provisional enquiries to Hull KR."

It was Cooke, playing at loose forward, who scored the all important try with three minutes to go to give Kear-coached Hull a 25-24 win over Leeds in the 2005 Challenge Cup final.

Talks between the Robins and Wakefield have taken place this week, shortly before the two clubs meet in the Super League at Craven Park on Friday night.

The Wildcats were humiliated 52-0 by Huddersfield Giants last time out, while Cooke has been on the sidelines at Hull KR recently.

The former England international stunned the rugby league world with his cross-city move to Rovers in 2007. He was subsequently handed a four-month ban after being found guilty of making an illegal approach.

Trinity, meanwhile, have completed the signing of former Castleford prop Ben Gledhill on a two-year contract.

Referee Richard Silverwood, who incurred the wrath of Leeds centre Keith Senior during the Rhinos' World Club Challenge defeat to Melbourne Storm, will be in charge of their game at Huddersfield on Sunday.

Senior will appear before a RFL tribunal in Leeds tonight after branding the Mirfield official "arrogant" in the aftermath of Leeds's 18-10 defeat.

The 33-year-old, who had been penalised by Silverwood for dissent, complained about the referee's failure to clamp down on Melbourne's alleged spoiling tactics, later issued an apology but must still face a charge of breaching the League's operational rules.

Senior could be suspended if he is found guilty but is more likely to be handed a fine.
