London Broncos 16 Huddersfield Giants 30: Brough earns points and plaudits from Brown

Nathan Brown lavished praise on Danny Brough after the stand-off guided Huddersfield Giants to a 30-16 win over London Broncos in the capital.

Brough scored a length-of-the-field try, conjured up two others and booted 10 points to guide the visitors to a hard-fought triumph.

And Giants coach Brown was a happy man after seeing his side make it three wins from four Stobart Super League games this campaign. He said: “If Danny had been playing for the opposition there is no doubt we would have lost that game today.

“Sometimes you need that bit of individual brilliance to get you over the line and Danny gave us that today.

“There are going to be games like this and it is that extra talent that gets you the win.

“We were not at our best today but we came here to get the win and we got the win.”

It was the hosts who were fastest out of the blocks and they took a deserved early lead when Antonio Kaufusi barged over from close range.

But after dominating that opening spell, the Londoners were rattled when Brough intercepted a lofted Michael Witt pass and raced away to draw the sides level.

Minutes later Leroy Cudjoe cashed in after a Brough spill confused the Broncos defence and suddenly it was the Giants who had their tails up.

A Brough penalty and a Kevin Brown score right after the break opened up a healthy lead, and although Kaufusi and Jamie O’Callaghan touched down for the hosts further Huddersfield tries from Joe Wardle and Cudjoe again saw the Giants home.

London coach Rob Powell said: “I though physically we were the stronger team, but we lacked that bit of polish.

“When you have yet to win a game confidence can be lacking and I thought we tried to force things a bit too much today.

“We had three tries disallowed, and rightly so, but that shows how close this game was.

“I thought at times our play was a bit erratic and that let us down,” he said.

“If we keep performing like we did today the wins will come, but we will have to start all over again next week.”
