London Broncos v Featherstone: Rovers looking to avoid wooden spoon

Rovers have yet to pick up a point in the First Utility Qualifiers, but will travel to the capital in good spirits after being pipped 32-24 by Hull KR last week.

That was a huge improvement from the 70-16 drubbing at Salford Red Devils seven days earlier and Sharp is looking for a repeat of last Sunday’s performance as Featherstone aim to end the campaign on a high.

Rovers will avoid the wooden spoon if they win tomorrow and Batley – who are two points ahead, but have a slightly worse points difference – lose at home to Salford Red Devils.

It is also an important game for London, who still have hopes of overtaking Salford and snatching a place in the million pound game.

They pulled off a stunning 
19-16 victory at Salford last week, but Sharp is confident Rovers are more than a match for them if they get their game together.

“We’ve beaten them twice this year and when we beat them we were really good,” said the Featherstone boss.

“The time they beat us, we had three players carried off and we were just down on troops that day.

“We are going there full of confidence, but we know they are playing really well. I have been impressed with them.

“They’ve spent plenty, they are a full-time club and they have got a lot of attacking threats and a lot of skill.

“They are going to be a challenge, especially on their plastic pitch and you have to adapt your mentality to it.”

Reflecting on the Rovers’ 2016 campaign, Sharp feels it has been far better than their last six results suggest. “The regular season has been a resounding success, finishing in the top-four and getting into the middle-eights,” he said.

“We can be really proud of ourselves, but if you look at our performances in the Qualifiers, we’ve not won a game and we’ve been heavily beaten on a couple of occasions.

He added: “But we let three games slip.

“We were pipped by a point at Batley, we had Leigh on the rack and Hull KR just clung on in the last five minutes.

“That was with a team with five out.

“Overall I am delighted and it has been a really good season for the team and club.”
