McGoldrick eager to make bow at the KC

The eccentric Australian is likely to continue in a dual full-back/stand-off role when the East Yorkshire club entertain Salford City Reds.

McGoldrick, who signed from Castleford Tigers on a short-term deal earlier this month, performed that in Monday night’s hard-fought 32-18 derby win at Hull KR.

That came after a rushed debut at Leeds Rhinos – he did not even get the opportunity to train with his new colleagues beforehand – and a tough trip over to Perpignan.

“I can’t wait for this Salford game,” he told the Yorkshire Post.

“I’ve played the last three since joining but they’ve all been away.

“I enjoy the KC (Stadium) at the best of times so it’ll be good to get there and play as part of the home side.

“Hopefully, we can build some momentum now and gather some more wins.”

Hull had only won once in their previous six outings before digging out that crucial victory over Rovers.

It has seen them rise from eighth to sixth, hugely bolstering their play-off chances.

McGoldrick admitted: “It was an important game in the context of the season.

“But we’re still a long way out and there’s a lot of things that can change.

“If we have got some advantage (five points over Rovers in eighth) then we need to ram that home.

“We need back-to-back wins. It’s no good winning then losing a couple on the trot. We need to produce the same if not better against Salford.”

After operating solely at full-back in his previous two outings, McGoldrick revelled in being used as a No 6 when Hull were attacking on Monday night.

He dummied his way over for a fine individual try, his first for the club, and then produced a bullet-like pass to create another for Richard Whiting.

“I’m still finding my feet and place in this team but I did a bit more ball-playing and, hopefully, that can evolve,” added the 31-year-old, who is still debating whether to retire at the end of the season or try to earn a longer deal at Hull.

“It was a good atmosphere to play in and it got pretty exciting 
in the middle part of the second half.

“But our middle (pack) was really good. People have been saying they’re soft in the last couple of weeks but we were really strong there and need the same against Salford.”
