McGuire and Delaney to miss Rhinos’ Trinity trip

Leeds Rhinos will be without half-back Danny McGuire for Monday’s Stobart Super League derby with Wakefield, while second rower Brett Delaney is also unlikely to feature.

McGuire was handed a one-match ban after making dangerous contact with Bradford full-back Brett Kearney during his side’s 34-16 derby win over the Bulls last Friday.

McGuire, who had the option of taking an early-guilty plea, opted to defend himself against the grade B charge but the Rugby Football League’s disciplinary committee found him guilty.

He was also fined £300 but avoided a two-match ban when the committee took into consideration his previous good record.

Delaney damaged a thumb in that match against Bradford but has been been told he does not need an operation and is, therefore, clear to play in the Challenge Cup final against Warrington at Wembley on August 25.

Leeds coach Brian McDermott said: “I am delighted for Brett. Obviously with injuries to joints, initially you fear the worst but the news is much more positive than that.

“Our medical team will continue to monitor him but we are very confident he will be okay for Wembley and hasn’t been ruled out for Monday yet, although that is unlikely.”

Wakefield’s former Leeds second rower Ali Lauitiiti will miss Monday’s game against his old club after accepting a one-match ban for using his knees in a tackle on Leroy Cudjoe in last Sunday’s 35-14 win at Huddersfield.

Rob Burrow needs one try to reach 150 for the Rhinos, and one appearance to reach 350 for the club. Burrow made his Leeds debut in an 18-16 defeat to Hull FC at Headingley over a decade ago on April 6, 2001.
