McGuire leads the tributes after dramatic late winner

DANNY McGUIRE revealed the agonising lengths Jamie Peacock went through to come up with the play that ultimately took Leeds Rhinos to Wembley for the Challenge Cup final.

The outstanding stand-off collected Peacock's brilliant off-load to dart over for his second try that rescued Leeds and earned a 32-28 Carnegie Challenge Cup semi-final success at Huddersfield.

It is the sort of contribution people have grown to expect from the inspirational prop but the England captain had been out of sorts early in the absorbing contest and replaced after only 12 minutes.

"He's really been struggling with a back problem," said McGuire.

"Some players wouldn't have got out of bed for two weeks but JP's superhuman.

"You can't tie him down and he came out today and put a massive effort in, as did everyone," he added.

McGuire re-lived his match-deciding 76th-minute effort which wrestled the lead back for the West Yorkshire club.

"I just try and follow the big man because I know he's going to get his arms free at times," he said.

"It's worked out a lot for us since JP's been at Leeds, we seem to have an understanding and while he keeps running like that I'll keep following, hopefully knocking the tries in."

Man-of-the-match McGuire, whose first effort was the 200th of his career, admitted Leeds never wavered even when James Graham's controversial 71st-minute try seemed set to send Saints through.

"We believe in each others' ability," said the England international, who also scored twice when Saints were defeated in

the 2003 semi-final on the same ground.

"We know when we go behind we've got the capability to dig ourselves out and have shown it so many times over the years.

"Getting to Wembley for the first time is special though. Saints have generally had a voodoo on us in the cup and I've lost a couple of finals too but this is fantastic."
