Millward moves in at the double

Castleford Tigers have completed a double raid on the east coast after securing Hull KR’s ex-Kiwi centre Jake Webster and Hull FC scrum-half Jamie Ellis for 2013.

Webster, 28, has signed a three-year contract, having just made his 100th appearance for the Robins and offsets the loss of Joe Arundel to Hull.

Ellis, 23, joins on a two-year deal, having failed to make a mark since moving from Leigh Centurions.

Castleford coach Ian Millward, who managed Ellis at Leigh, said: “I think he has an abundance of talent and a wonderful kicking game while I believe the pairing of Jake and Michael Shenton – two specialist international centres – will be up there amongst the best.”

Castleford’s Richard Owen has been charged with punching Leeds’ Carl Ablett and faces a two-game ban.

England Knights coach Kieron Purtill – who lost his job as St Helens assistant when Royce Simmons was sacked in March – will assist Paul Anderson at Huddersfield next season.

Purtill, 35, worked at Giants with Anderson in 2008 when they took temporary charge following Jon Sharp’s exit.

Halifax made a 2011 profit of more than £20,000.
