Morrison dreaming of play-off shock

DEWSBURY RAMS coach Glenn Morrison sees no reason why his side cannot cause a huge shock tomorrow and book a place in the Championship Grand Final by winning at the competition’s stand-out team Leigh Centurions.

Paul Rowley’s side lost just once all year on the way to taking top spot while Dewsbury finished sixth.

But the visitors have flourished in the play-offs, thrashing Workington Town 50-6 and then winning 25-0 at highly-fancied Halifax last week.

Leigh are also missing Tom Spencer, Tommy Goulden, Sam Hopkins and Martin Aspinwall and Morrison - who has Papuan prop Makali Aizue back from suspension - said: “There’s a great buzz around the club.

“We’ve said from the start of this year that we’d put a squad together that could match the top sides if we play for 80 minutes.

“For the last two weeks, we’ve done that.

“We’ve scored 75 points and conceded just six in our last two games, so we’re doing something right. We’ll go there confident.”

Rowley said: “We’re keen to get to the final and pick up more silverware, and we’re more than capable of doing so with the team we’ve got available.”

He added: “Dewsbury have got a really good kicking game from Anthony Thackeray and Tom Hemingway; that’s a big threat of theirs, and they’re also very enthusiastic and work hard.

“They’re a big side and they’re very physical. They like to stamp their authority on a match, and they’re not afraid to give you a bit of a tickle – but we’re expecting that and we’re ready for it.”
