The former Penrith Panthers hooker got off to a flying start when he helped Rhinos to a stunning 20-15 win at Hull on Friday.

Segeyaro has signed for Leeds, who remain bottom of the table, until the end of the season, with reports in the Australian media suggesting he is keen for an NRL return in 2017.

But Rhinos are anxious to keep him and the player himself has stressed no decision has yet been made.

Segeyaro said before Friday’s game he felt his style of play is suited to the British competition and insisted his debut had underlined that.

“There’s a lot more freedom,” he stated. “It is not all about the wrestle and stuff like that. It is a lot more of a free-flowing game, it is not so structured as NRL.

“It is sort of like playing footy when you are growing up and you are having fun and stuff like that.

“It is more enjoyable in that sense. I am not bagging the NRL, it’s the benchmark competition, but this is just awesome. It is really scaring me because I can see myself staying for a very long time.”

Segeyaro arrived in England a week ago and had only two days’ preparation before lining up against Hull.

“It exceeded my expectations,” the Papua New Guinea international said of his first taste of Super League.

“The fans were great and the game was outstanding. The boys put in a fantastic performance, not only on attack but defensively the boys were on song for the full 80.

“It was a team performance, I just added to it. I just am happy to be part of this team, it is a well-respected club with a rich history.

“They have won a lot of titles in the past and a lot of great players have worn this jersey.”
