Northumbria Uni 0 York City Knights 132: Students get a lesson from rampant York

The records tumbled as York ran in 23 tries to move easily into round four with Chris Thorman’s 20 conversions easily surpassing the previous club best (13) from Gary Pearce against Nottingham over two decades ago.

Thorman also scored four tries but was trumped by stand-off Jonny Presley crossing the whitewash on six occasions although credit must be given to the Students whose ages ranged from 19 to 22 as they stuck to the task.

The scoreboard clicked regularly as Thorman scored two tries and Presley completed his hat-trick before the hooter.

After the break, the Knights were remorseless in their attack.

Presley’s speed of thought and application resulted in another hat-trick during the second half and Thorman again crossed the line twice but the Students never once looked dispirited.
