Not good to talk now, says sin-binned Ferres

He was sin-binned during their 36-22 Ladbrokes Challenge Cup defeat at Huddersfield Giants on Friday as the struggling holders exited the competition.

Ferres was yellow carded by Ben Thaler for protesting about his former club’s third try just before half-time.

Trailing 12-6, he had lost the ball when hurtling towards the Huddersfield goalline seemingly destined for a try.

However, Giants picked up and went the length of the field for Ryan Brierley to score and, crucially, make it 18-6.

England second-row Ferres maintained the ball was illegally stripped from his grasp and said: “One hundred per cent, I wouldn’t drop the ball when it’s two metres away from the tryline.

“I’ll do anything to keep the ball and score a try; I haven’t scored one this season.

“I was disappointed with the call.

“Personally I don’t seem to get many calls go with me at the minute.

“I don’t know why that is, but obviously that’s the referees and I don’t want to talk about them too much.

“The poor thing is you can’t speak to referees now,” added Ferres.

“They can say what they want to you and it was all right for Thaler to have a bit of banter with me a few weeks ago and try to show me up on a Sky game.

“But try to speak to him and it’s not allowed.”

Treble-winners Leeds remain in dire straits out of the Challenge Cup and bottom of Super League ahead of West Yorkshire rivals Castleford’s visit on Thursday night.

Former Castleford player Ferres admitted: “I’ll be looking to go out there and right some wrongs.

“I was disappointed with my performance Friday and want to go out there and restore some pride.”
