O’Hara keen for Rovers to build on derby win in Manchester

Rovers entertain Warrington Wolves tomorrow fresh from a record Super League win over Castleford Tigers and a memorable last-gasp Magic Weekend success against fierce rivals Hull FC.

Those victories, so sweet for differing reasons, have pushed them into the play-off places, albeit only on points difference ahead of Bradford Bulls.

However, the East Yorkshire club have a series of difficult fixtures looming and O’Hara, 31, accepts the hard work is yet to begin.

“We’re in the top eight now,” the former New South Wales star told the Yorkshire Post.

“But I know we come up against Warrington, Huddersfield and St Helens in the next few weeks so we have got to compete against all those big teams as well.

“To win the last two has been great but we can’t rest on that. Warrington are one of the best teams around so it’s going to be a tough test.”

It would be foolish to believe, though, that the remarkable scenes at Manchester a week ago might not ignite Rovers’ campaign.

Craig Sandercock’s side, 14 points down with a little over 10 minutes remaining, somehow fought back with a three-try salvo to stun their city neighbours.

Dave Hodgson scored the crucial try with seconds remaining and O’Hara, who finally made his debut last month after shoulder surgery dampened his move from Crusaders, admitted: “It was amazing.

“Sandy said ‘this is the one game a year you play for our fans – you play for each other, the club and family but today you do it for the supporters’. The look and excitement on their faces when Hodgo scored that last try was something special.”

Rovers showed tremendous belief and spirit to conjure up such a revival, characteristics which will need to be abundant against a fluent Warrington side who seek an eighth successive win tomorrow.

“We hung in there and things started to turn,” recalled O’Hara.

“Blake Green had been saying all week we might be under the pump for sections of the game but we’ve got to soak that pressure up and we’ll get our chance and take it. That was exactly what happened.”
