The lively centre moved to Wheldon Road on loan in July, doing enough to secure a longer stay and becoming the West Yorkshire club’s eighth capture for 2014.

After Hull FC prop Andy Lynch confirmed his return on the back of further notable arrivals such as Brett Seymour, Luke Dorn and Frankie Mariano, coach Daryl Powell is certainly getting quantity and quality from the funds of Rangi Chase’s sale to Salford City Reds.

Channing, 21, featured four times this season and scored three tries, including a couple in Castleford’s last home match of the season versus Salford.

“Michael has fitted into the club seamlessly as both a player and a person,” said Powell, who has also seen his assistant coach Danny Orr agree a new two-year deal.

“He is a young centre with a lot of potential who will continue to thrive in our culture.

“His footwork is outstanding as is his ability to get the ball to his winger.

“Alongside that, his defence has improved massively during his time at our club and I am delighted that he is staying with us.”

Channing’s hopes of representing Wales at the World Cup this autumn have been ended by injury but that only means he will be fresher for a crucial campaign at Castleford next season.

“I’ve loved my time at Cas so far,” he said.

“I’ve enjoyed the coaching and I’ve learned so much and I think that it’s showed in my performances.

“Daryl has been saying that I’ve improved week after week and if you’re young, you always want to learn.

“Being around good coaches and players is something good to be a part of.

“It’s going to be a big challenge for places next season, but I’ve always said it brings out the best in you when you have big competition.

“I want to get as much game time as I can although I’ve got some huge names in front of me in the likes of Jake Webster and Michael Shenton. But I want to make a name for myself as well and push for a spot.”
