Raiders relegated after Rams turn the screw

DEWSBURY RAMS condemned Barrow Raiders to relegation from the Championship, thanks to a solid defensive display.

The game started slowly with errors coming from both sides and in the 10th minute a Barrow knock-on handed Dewsbury great field position, Tom Hemingway throwing a short pass to Ewan Dowes and the forward walked through some weak defence to score.

They extended their lead in the 16th minute when Anthony Thackeray threw a wide ball to Kieran Hyde, who raced 20 metres to score, with Hemingway converting.

Barrow needed a response and got one immediately when Dale Morton fumbled the restart and, with virtually their first attack of the game, the visitors scored through Nathan Mossop.

In the 26th minute, Hyde found Rob Spicer to score, Hemingway adding the extras.

Eight minutes later, Barrow grabbed their second try when Craig Briscoe scored with an angled run.

However, the hosts put the result beyond doubt in the 49th minute when Ben Hellewell collected a Hyde grubber kick to score and, just five minutes later, the Rams scored again when Hyde raced in.

But it was Barrow who scored the try of the game in the 73rd minute when a 90-metre effort was finished by Dalton Grant.

Dewsbury had the final say in the 76th minute when Dowes crossed for a simple try and Hyde converted.
