Return of Australian duo perfect timing for Rovers as Saints await

Craig Sandercock’s side will be seeking their first season victory at the fourth attempt and realise journeying to Saints tonight does not make their task any easier.

However, they are strengthened by the return from suspension of Poore and fellow Australian front-row Mick Weyman, timely news given the manner in which their undefeated hosts have battered opponents up front this term.

“They’re a good side, very skilful and at the moment they are the benchmark team,” he said.

“It’s a big ask for us, but I don’t see why we can’t go get a result.

“Saints are one of the bigger teams but we played Huddersfield the other week and they have a big pack as well – I don’t think there are many small forwards around nowadays.

“We got a draw there. We need to complete our sets, kick long and do the little things right.”

Poore, who joined from Wakefield Trinity last autumn, admitted: “We’re making some silly unforced errors at the moment and if we can fix those up and follow the game plan, we should be okay.

“We’re only in round four and we know we’ve got a lot of work to do. There are a lot of new blokes in our team and it’s all about settling down and getting the camaraderie going.

“It’s also about going that extra yard for your mate and that’s what we’re working on.”

Triallist half-back Brett Seymour has left Castleford Tigers without playing a competitive game.

The Australian joined in the off-season after being released by Hull last April following a battle with depression.

But Seymour, 29, was unable to force his way into Castleford’s side and is now looking for a new club.

Coach Daryl Powell explained: “Our season has started pretty well and Liam Finn, Marc Sneyd and Jamie Ellis – who’s in front of him too – left him fourth in line.

“He’s been fantastic while he’s been here and worked really hard so it is disappointing.

“But the last thing he wants to be is a professional trainer, so I think it is the right decision for us and Brett that he moves on and hopefully gets a club over here as soon as possible.”

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats second-row Jordan Crowther, 17, has signed a new four-year deal.
