Returning Jeffries benefits from his spell on the sidelines at Bradford

Two of the finest purveyors of the art will be in action at Odsal.

Everyone knows the telling impact Lee Briers’s boot has consistently had on the visitors and current Super League leaders.

However, with a brilliant display against Wakefield a week ago, Bradford’s less eulogised Ben Jeffries reminded many of his own skill in that area.

Left out of their opening three games, the Australian stand-off returned to help craft a 36-18 success with his stellar kicking directly producing four tries against his former club.

Jeffries, in his second spell at Odsal having also featured in two stints with Wakefield, has not always convinced doubters about his ability to control a game.

Indeed, Bulls coach Mick Potter preferred to link new signings Jarrod Sammut and Luke Gale until the latter suffered ankle ligament damage in the heavy home defeat to Wigan.

But Jeffries, 31, told the Yorkshire Post: “To be honest, missing the first three rounds hasn’t hurt me one bit as it’s meant I’ve been able to sit back and analyse both my own game and really see what I can bring to the team.

“I was quite happy with how it went against Wakefield but I know I have to bring my A game each week.”

That is especially true when lining up against Briers.

“I’ve been in Super League now for 10 years and every year he’s made his mark,” admitted Jeffries. “He’s a fantastic player for Warrington and one of the best around.

“Briersy brings such a good kicking game and is involved in so many of their plays.”
