RFL receives offer to buy troubled Bradford

Brendan Guilfoyle announced last Thursday that he had received a bid from a local consortium but 24 hours later the RFL cast doubt over any deal when they revealed nothing had been put in writing.

Now the governing body say they have seen details of the offer from a group of Asian businessmen, known as the ABC consortium, and were scrutinising the bid before handing it over for consideration by the RFL’s board of directors.

“The RFL have received details of the formal written offer and they are currently being evaluated by the executive for presentation to the board,” said a spokesman.

The offer is thought to be conditional on the new owners being able to buy back the lease to the Odsal Stadium from the RFL and being given a guarantee that Bradford will remain in Super League.

Guilfoyle says he has until this Friday to find a buyer or he will place the club into liquidation.

The next development could come today when Bradford are expected to discover how many points they are to be docked for going into administration.

Meanwhile, Warrington have become the latest Super League club to provide a helping hand to the beleaguered Bulls.

The Wolves are to donate all proceeds from away-ticket sales for Sunday’s home game against the Yorkshire club to BullBuilder, the Bradford supporters trust who have set up a hardship fund to help those made redundant when the Yorkshire club went into administration.

Warrington are following the example of Leeds, who raised about £60,000 from last Friday’s derby for their hard-up neighbours while Widnes made a similar gesture earlier this season.
