Rhinos' duo hoping to avoid RFL action

Rhinos coach Brian McClennan is confident his squad will not be hit by any suspensions before Saturday's Carnegie Challenge Cup semi-final with St Helens, writes Dave Craven.

Second-row Carl Ablett was placed on report for a high tackle on Wigan's Sam Tomkins in Friday's loss while prop Ryan Bailey endured the same fate for leading with his knees into a tackle.

The RFL match review panel will assess those fouls this morning and decide whether to refer the incidents to tomorrow's disciplinary meeting.

Leeds are already without injured second-rows Ian Kirke and Greg Eastwood for the showpiece at Headingley Carnegie while Ali Lauitiiti departed against Wigan with a recurrence of an old calf problem so he is doubtful.

They can ill-afford to lose any more forwards to bans but McClennan insisted: "I didn't see too much in them.

"I thought Abbo has gone in and contested it and hit with his chest.

"Bails led in, but he has gone in for the bump. I think we will be all right there.

"I'm hopeful they'll be okay."

With regards Ablett's ugly challenge, when Tomkins had taken a Kevin Sinfield kick, the Leeds coach has support from Wigan assistant Shaun Wane.

"These things happen, it doesn't bother me," he said.

"I thought it was more clumsy than anything else, there was no malice in it."

The 26-12 defeat leaves champions Leeds back outside of the top four with just three games to go and Wigan will take the League Leaders Shield by claiming just one point from their last three fixtures.

McClennan blamed his side's profligacy for their latest loss and said: "I don't think we executed well. They executed a lot better than us."
