Rhinos winger Donald faces surgery

LEEDS Rhinos winger Scott Donald is facing three months out of action after being told he requires a shoulder reconstruction.

The news is a major blow both to Leeds's hopes of retaining their Super League crown and, more immediately, reclaiming the World Club Challenge against Melbourne.

Donald, 30, "jarred" his shoulder in Friday's 22-10 Super League win over Salford at Headingley but it emerged he suffered a dislocation and he will undergo arthroscopic surgery on Monday.

One of just two specialist wingers in the champions' senior squad, the Australian has shown immense durability while proving a prolific scorer since joining from Manly Sea Eagles in 2006.

Donald scored 67 tries in his first three seasons in Super League and has touched down three times this season.

Leeds coach Brian McClennan is likely to switch teenager Kallum Watkins to the right wing against Melbourne and hopes that centre Brett Delaney is fit enough to return after a two-match absence with a knee injury.

"We are disappointed for Scotty," he said. "He is in the best possible hands though and we are confident he will make a full recovery."
