Robinson big admirer of Catalans’ attack

They face each other tomorrow with Huddersfield having the best defensive record in Super League, remarkable considering they sit in ninth place.

Conversely, only rock bottom Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have conceded more points than eighth-placed Catalans yet they are one of the most prolific – only three sides better their 234 points.

Ex-England hooker Robinson admitted: “They’re a good attacking side. If you look at their playing roster they’re just packed with ex-internationals who have come over like Todd Carney.

“They’ve got a lot of strike and they’re going to pose a lot of questions for any team who play against them.

“They’re a very contrasting side to us at the moment; they’ve been great with the ball all year but have been leaking a few points, and we’re the opposite really.

“Defensively we’ve been sound and difficult to score against, but on the flip side we’re not creating opportunities for ourselves.”

That has been obvious in their last three games, all of which have been lost at home to Salford Red Devils (18-12), at Hull KR (20-16) and, on Sunday, when St Helens arrived to beat them 11-8.

It is surprising given the calibre of some of their playmakers – 2013 Man of Steel Danny Brough, new recruit from Castleford Jamie Ellis and Robinson, too to name just three.

“We’re a little bit frustrated more than anything else at the moment,” he added, since their four-game winning run was ended by Salford on Good Friday.

“We thought that we were picking up some points and performances then as soon as Easter has come around we seem to have lost our groove.

“I would say we were the better side against Saints; I thought for the majority of the game defensively we were pretty good again and they didn’t cause us that many problems. We had the majority of possession and posed a lot of pressure on them but unfortunately our attack isn’t fluent at the moment.

Giants coach Paul Anderson makes just one change to his 19-man squad with centre Joe Wardle returning from suspension to replace Michael Lawrence who didn’t make the matchday cut versus St Helens.

Catalans are still without the injured Carney, Vincent Duport, Greg Mounis and Ben Pomeroy while Morgan Escaré and Mathias Pala also drop out.
