rovers offer route back for winger williams

Hull KR have taken former Leeds and England winger Danny Williams on trial.

The 24-year-old, who has spent the last three years with rugby union side Newcastle, linked up with Justin Morgan’s men on Tuesday.

“I’m thankful for the chance to come here. It’s a great club and I’m thankful to get the chance to come and play with the boys and see where I can go from there,” he said.

Williams, pictured, scored 13 tries in 15 appearances during his time with Leeds, and also had loan spells with Hull and Castleford.

Morgan is looking for cover in his back department, having dropped England wing Peter Fox for a third time this season for Sunday`s derby win over Hull.

n Halifax will aim to prove last week’s 36-16 win at Leigh was no flash in the pan during tonight’s live televised Championship match against Hunslet Hawks.

Halifax became the first team to beat Leigh in a league fixture this year when they triumphed last week, but remarkably it was only their third win of the season.

Livewire hooker Sean Penkywicz could return after missing the Leigh game with a foot injury, while dual-registered prop Gil Dudson could make his Halifax home debut.

They face a Hawks side looking to bounce back after last week’s 34-12 defeat against Batley. Victory could see Hunslet leap above Halifax into seventh place.

Hunslet coach Paul March, pictured, who is without injured pair Rob Kelly and James Houston, said: “We were committed for 70 minutes against Batley, but the last 10 minutes took its toll. For the first 40 minutes we were very good defensively and with the ball in hand.

“There was effort all across the park. Hopefully against Halifax we can come out with our backs against the wall and show everybody that we’re not dead and buried.”
