Sandercock has to plan without banned Weyman

Ordinarily, losing such an experienced forward as the former New South Wales front-row, would cause problems for the Robins.

But, given their extensive recruitment over the winter, Sandercock is not unduly worried after the 29-year-old was banned for two weeks following a dangerous tackle on his debut against Leeds Rhinos last Sunday.

Both Jordan Cox and Rhys Lovegrove were not even included in the 19-man squad for that game so they are brought in for the trip to West Yorkshire and one of twins Adam and Jonathan Walker is expected to be promoted from the bench to start in the front-row.

Hull KR played Huddersfield in a friendly last month and Sandercock feels that recent experience will be beneficial as they look to pick up their first Super League win of 2014.

“The fact that we played them a few weeks back probably just reinforces a few things that you believe,” he said.

“They have some strike players there and played extremely well against Wigan the other week so it’s going to be a tough game.

“If our middles can hold their gloves up and control the ruck then that may limit some of the threats that Huddersfield have.

“Keeping the error count down will put us in good stead and we know that Danny Brough has arguably the best kicking game in Super League.

“If we turn over the ball too often then at some stage he will punish us.

“But we feel as though we have a bit of depth in the forwards and can cover Mick (Weyman) for a couple of weeks.

“The same applies to the backs as someone will have to step in there and do Dave’s (Hodgson) job.”

The ex-Great Britain winger suffered a knee injury in the 34-6 loss against Leeds and could be missing until the end of May while utility Graeme Horne has also pulled out with an abductor problem.

However, the pacey Omari Caro – who scored six tries in nine Super League games last season after joining from London Broncos – could get a rare opportunity in place of Hodgson, or Craig Hall might switch to the wing with Liam Salter brought in at centre.
