Sausage champions rise from ashes

JUST a few short months ago their business premises were destroyed in a fire but this week Simon Haigh and Andrew Whitwam were declared the UK's Champion of Champions in sausage making.

The pair run Bolster Moor Farm Shop, near Huddersfield. and took the title after beating off competition from 25 other champion sausages in the competition held at Butcher's Hall, London.

The win goes some way to making up for the major setback the pair received in July when their business at Hinchcliffe Farm Shop, Huddersfield was destroyed in a fire.

However, the businessmen bounced back with their operation at Bolster Moor and are now celebrating their success, which coincides with their first anniversary.

A spokesman for the business said: "For us as a new business, a new start, winning this has been absolutely fantastic, but it's very much a team effort. We like to think we do that little bit extra, and try that little bit harder, and everyone gets involved.

"For those looking to follow in their footsteps, Simon says the key is to listen to the judges. You need to listen to the constructive criticisms you get from entering competitions and find out how you can improve."
