Shenton hoping for positive news on dislocated shoulder

The England centre suffered the injury during Friday’s epic 
42-14 win over Wigan Warriors, the club’s first victory of the season after three previous losses.

Shenton, 28, will certainly miss Thursday’s game at Huddersfield Giants but sees a specialist today and hopes for a positive outcome.

“It does feel okay and I don’t think it’s going to be a bad one,” he said. “Apparently, if there’s a good way of dislocating your shoulder, then that’s how I’ve done it.

“We’ll wait to see the scans but hopefully it won’t be too severe.”

Shenton, who scored late on against Wigan, described the victory as “pretty special” but added: “Huddersfield got their first win on Friday, too, so they’ve got that off their back.

“We’ve always found it quite difficult at their place while there’s a bit of rivalry with the players (Craig Huby and Jamie Ellis) they’ve signed from us for this season. They’ll be looking to impress but I’m confident we can go and pick up another win.”

Meanwhile, Castleford head coach Daryl Powell’s backroom team of assistant coaches Danny Orr and Ryan Sheridan plus head of strength and conditioning Ben Cooper have all signed new three-year contracts taking them through until the end of the 2017.

“That is really good news for the club, brilliant,” said Shenton.

“They’ve all had a real impact. Before Coops came here Cas were known for not really having the work ethic of other clubs but he’s got us now as one of the fittest and most physical in the comp’,” he said.

“As for Shez and Danny, having two international half-backs with such experience and vision is pretty special. It’s great.”

Elsewhere, Super League referee Tim Roby, 25, has accepted an offer to become a match official with the NRL and will fly to Sydney within the next two weeks.

However, with concerns already about the limited number of top-line officials here, yesterday’s announcement raises further questions about whether the competition has enough referees of the requisite calibre.

Also, Hull FC’s Mickey Paea could miss Friday’s trip to Wigan after being charged with the Grade B offence of raising his knees in a tackle on Leeds Rhinos’ Jamie Jones-Buchanan.

The prop will appear before the disciplinary panel this evening.
