Siddal 14 Keighley 30: Siddal push Cougars all the way

Championship professionals Keighley Cougars toiled to overcome National Conference neighbours Siddal, eventually winning 30-14.

The Halifax amateurs, who have a proud track record in the Challenge Cup, scored first and last through half-back Shaun Garrod and led 8-6 just before half-time at Huddersfield YMCA’s Laund Hill ground.

Lewis Reed and Danny Jones scored first-half tries for the Cougars, with Scott Leatherbarrow kicking the conversions for a 12-8 advantage.

Sean Hesketh’s try stretched Keighley’s lead early in the second half before a double from Leatherbarrow put them 30-8 clear, and assured them of a place in today’s lunchtime fifth-round draw.

Garrod deservedly had the final word for Siddal.
