Sinfield proud to lead England in pursuit of World Cup glory

1980: Born Sept 12, Oldham.

1996: Joins Leeds Rhinos and makes debut at 16 v Sheffield Eagles the following year.

1998: Scores his first try against Huddersfield Giants.

1999: Makes 21 appearances and scores two tries.

2000: Selected in England’s World Cup squad – hat-trick of tries in 76-4 win v Russia.

2001: Debut for Great Britain, who beat Australia in first Test. Plays in next two matches.

2003: Awarded Leeds captaincy – they lose 22-20 to Bradford in Challenge Cup final.

2004: Leads Rhinos to first Grand Final victory – 16-8 v Bradford. Omitted from Great Britain’s 2004 Tri Nations squad.

2005: Captains Leeds to a 39-32 win over Canterbury Bulldogs in first World Club Challenge. Wins Lance Todd Trophy as Leeds lose Challenge Cup final 25-24 to Hull.

2007: Returns to Great Britain squad v France and is part of squad who achieve three wins over New Zealand in Test series. Scores 12 points to lead Leeds to a 33-6 win over St Helens in the Super League Grand Final.

2008: Scores seven points in the Rhinos’ 11-4 win over Melbourne Storm in World Club Challenge. Scores five goals in England’s 56-8 win v France. Leeds defeat St Helens once again in Grand Final. Part of England side that reaches semi-finals of World Cup.

2009: Man of the match v St Helens as Leeds win Super League Grand Final for third consecutive year.

2011: Leads Rhinos into history books as they become first side to win Super League from outside the top three during the regular season.

2012: Captains Rhinos to a 26-12 victory v Manly in World Club Challenge. Becomes Leeds’ all-time leading points scorer, surpassing Lewis Jones’s haul of 2,920 points. Scores 3,000th point in Leeds’ 31-18 defeat to St Helens. Despite finishing fifth again, man-of-the-match Sinfield leads Rhinos to Super League Grand Final success v Warrington. Awarded England captaincy.
