Sinfield set for return to action against Trinity

England captain Kevin Sinfield will return from injury to make his 499th career appearance in Leeds Rhinos’ game at Wakefield tomorrow night, writes Dave Craven.

The stand-off’s availability after six weeks out with a thumb injury is clearly a significant boost for the champions, as is the sight of Samoan prop Kylie Leuluai’s name in the 19-man squad once more after his own injury problems.

While Sinfield nudges ever closer to the 500-game milestone, 19-year-old James Duckworth is set to celebrate his first senior appearance as England centre Kallum Watkins has been ruled out with an ankle injury.

Hooker Paul McShane has been omitted, however, and dual-registered with Hunslet Hawks ahead of Sunday’s fixture with Leigh suggesting Leeds coach Brian McDermott will pair Sinfield with tyro Liam Sutcliffe at half-back and return Rob Burrow to the dummy-half role.

Wakefield, who lost just 20-18 at Headingley only last Friday, are bolstered themselves ahead of the Super League re-match.

Captain Danny Kirmond has shaken off the knee injury that led him to depart early last week, while prop Andy Raleigh has not suffered a fractured cheekbone as first feared so could feature.

Top try-scorer Dean Collis is also in line for a return at centre as is exciting forward Taulima Tautai, who has been out of action since only his second Wakefield appearance against Wigan in June.
