Sneyd comes up with the perfect response

Dominant scrum-half Sneyd contributed a personal haul of 28 points in Thursday’s 48-8 romp at injury-ravaged Huddersfield Giants, enjoying a 100 per cent record with his goal-kicking on top of his try exploits.

Creating other scores as well, it was a perfect response to Garry Schofield’s scathing criticism of the Lance Todd Trophy winner following the previous week’s 16-14 loss against Catalans Dragons.

Kelly, who crossed twice himself on his return from a one-game ban, revealed: “I said to Sneydy during the week, ‘I bet you go out there and get a hat-trick and kick all your goals’.

“It was good to watch him do that and I’m happy to get off the mark as well. I was just helping the team out.

“It was disappointing missing out against Catalans and it was hard to watch to be honest. I’m not the type to enjoying watching games I could be involved in.”

Kelly, the off-season recruit from Hull KR, was electric with his running skills, both tries coming from some elusive play.

His partnership with 26-year-old Sneyd is clearly blossoming and they seem to compliment each other perfectly.

The Australian said: “We just share and scare them.

“He’s a different type of footballer to what I am; Sneydy organises more than I do and is the total opposite to me in many senses.

“Sometimes that works and we were really in sync at Huddersfield.”

Having picked up two wins from their opening three games, the Challenge Cup holders host St Helens on Friday.

Kelly, 25, added: “I think the boys really rallied together this week and put some wrongs right.

“Everyone here is delighted with the win but we’re already looking forward to that big challenge next week.

“We’ll go back to the drawing board and look at the things we need to work on ahead of St Helens. I’m looking forward to the challenge.”

Meanwhile, Hull coach Lee Radford said: “Schoey lit a bit of a fuse with his (radio) comments so, if that’s the response, he can keep doing that as often as he likes.

“Marc did not bat an eyelid about it but he is made of the stuff that does not react to criticism.

“His temperament is perfectly suited to being a No 7 at the Black and Whites and does not fold under that sort of pressure.”
