Super League: Hull Fc defeat Huddersfield Giants, Leeds Rhinos continue improving, Wakefield overcome on continent

FOUR Yorkshire teams were in Super League action at the weekend. Find out how they got on here.

Hull 28 Huddersfield 24

England centre Kirk Yeaman struck with two tries in the last 10 minutes to help Hull to their first Stobart Super League win in five matches in an error-strewn thriller at the KC Stadium.

Hooker Aaron Heremaia was also among the tryscorers on his home debut as the lead changed hands six times before Yeaman finally settled matters with the game’s ninth try two minutes from the end.

The win lifts Hull level with fifth-placed Huddersfield, who remain in freefall with just one win in their last six league matches.

The game only really came to life in the last 15 minutes as both sides struggled to find cohesion.

London Broncos 12 Leeds Rhinos 58

Leeds coach Brian McDermott admitted there is still a long way to go for his side despite their 58-12 demolition of London Broncos today.

The defending champion Rhinos eased to sixth in the Stobart Super League table with this 10-try romp, stretching clear with six tries in the final 20 minutes of the contest.

However, McDermott insisted there was plenty more hard work ahead as he said: “We are still not where we want to be as far as our league position goes.

“But we have a bit of momentum now, and a big game to come against Hull next week.

“I actually thought this was a really tough game.”

Catalan Dragons 34 Wakefield 10

The Catalan Dragons closed within a point of Warrington with a battling Stobart Super League win over the Wildcats.

Damien Blanch (3), Steve Menzies (2) and Clint Greenshields scored the tries for the home side in the energy-sapping heat of Perpignan this afternoon.

It enabled the Dragons to reclaim third place from St Helens and made sure they took full advantage of last night’s defeats for leaders Wigan and the second-placed Wolves.
