Wigan 46 Huddersfield 12

England international Gareth Hock took a back seat on his comeback from a two-year drugs ban as his Wigan team-mate Sam Tomkins brought high-flying Huddersfield down to earth with a hat-trick of tries.

Hock, who tested positive for cocaine use in June 2009, received a rapturous reception from the bumper 19,169 crowd at the DW Stadium when he was introduced as a substitute 24 minutes into tonight’s match.

It was a gentle introduction as the 27-year-old forward played just 30 minutes in two spells without making a significant contribution but Wigan hardly needed him at his best as they condemned Huddersfield to their heaviest Super League defeat under coach Nathan Brown.

Tomkins was the hero with three of his side’s eight tries and he was a constant thorn in the Giants’ side with his electrifying bursts of pace and elusive side-steps as the champions cruised to a victory that keeps them close on the heels of leaders Warrington.

Harlequins 0 Hull KR 34

Jake Webster powered over for two tries as Hull KR eased the pressure on under-fire coach Justin Morgan with a comfortable win at the Twickenham Stoop.

There has been speculation that Morgan’s future was in doubt after a recent poor run, but centre Webster crossed for a try in each half as the Robins kept alive their Engage Super League play-off hopes and effectively ended those of Quins in the process.

Liam Colbon, Blake Green, Clint Newton and Michael Dobson also crossed for the Robins, with the later also kicking five goals.

Catalan Dragons 54 Castleford 20

Catalan Dragons ran riot against Castleford this evening, scoring 10 tries in a dominant performance which saw the Yorkshiremen comprehensively beaten in the south of France.

Steve Menzies, Lopini Paea, Damien Blanch, Scott Dureau and Clint Greenshields all crossed for the home side in the Stade Gilbert Brutus in the opening 40 minutes.

Dureau added three conversions as the Dragons surged into a 26-10 half-time lead - Castleford’s response coming from tries by Richard Owen and Dean Widders and a Kirk Dixon goal.

Jason Baitieri, Vaccari (two), Baile and Paea added further tries to the Catalan cause after the interval, with late scores from Richie Mathers and Owen proving scant consolation for the visitors.
