Super League: Lessons to be learned as Headingley encounter looks vital

Six things we learned from Super League round three:

1: Castleford Tigers are the real deal. They showed tremendous spirit, great attacking ability and defensive resolve to maintain their unbeaten record with a win at Hull.

2: Hull are not the finished article yet. Impressive wins in the opening two rounds raised expectations sky-high, but Tigers proved Hull are vulnerable when put under pressure.

3: Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have fighting spirit. They could have taken a hammering at Warrington after trailing 24-6 at half-time, but the second half was 10-10.

4: Coachless Hull KR can compete, but need to do it for longer. They played well to lead St Helens at the break, but faded badly in the second half.

5: Huddersfield Giants’ problems have been overshadowed by Leeds Rhinos’, but they are also in a hole after three defeats and with injuries to key men. Friday’s trip to Headingley is vital for both sides.

6: Technology is only as efficient as the people using it. Video referee Thierry Alibert awarded a try to Catalans in their four-point win over Leeds Rhinos, after looking at the wrong incident when asked to check for a possible knock-on.
