Super League: Rovers off the mark in cracker, Wildcats thrashed

Australian all-time great David Campese watched his nephew lead Hull KR to their first win of the season as they came from 20-6 down to beat Wigan 22-20 in a cliffhanger at the KC Lightstream Stadium.

Rovers skipper Terry Campese, playing in front of the 101-cap Wallaby for the first time at Rovers, was at the heart of a tremendous fightback by the home side, who were staring at a third successive defeat after conceding three tries in a five-minute spell either side of half-time.

England prop Lee Mossop marked the start of his second spell with Wigan following his return from Australia with one of his side’s four tries but the Warriors were clearly suffering from a hangover from their World Club Challenge defeat by Brisbane.

Widnes 58 Wakefield Wildcats 16

Wales international Lloyd White scored four tries in a match for the first time in his career as Widnes sent Wakefield crashing to their first defeat of the season.

Hooker White also booted four late conversions for a haul of 24 points in the 58-16 win, despite sharing the dummy-half duties with Aaron Heremaia in a one-sided contest.

Widnes skipper Kevin Brown was also in top form on his 300th career appearance to earn the hosts their first win in the last nine Super League meetings against Wakefield.

Brown scored two tries and set up four others in a sizzling performance with Patrick Ah Van also crossing twice.

Wakefield, after running in 68 points in opening victories over Castleford and Hull KR, conceded 10 tries with Joe Mellor and Chris Clarkson also getting in on the action.
