Super League Sunday: Hull KR win Yorkshire derby, Wildcats crushed

Here is a rundown of the Super League games on Sunday involving Yorkshire’s clubs.

Hull KR kept their Engage Super League play-off hopes alive and all but ended Bradford’s with victory at Odsal tonight.

Three Rovers tries in the 10 minutes either side of half-time effectively sealed an away win that leaves them just a point behind city rivals Hull outside the top eight.

For the Bulls their season is practically over after coach Mick Potter conceded before kick-off that defeat would spell the end of their challenge.

The fact that a number of angry supporters barracked Potter as he made the way down from his box at the full-time whistle merely highlighted that further.

Potter had billed the match as do-or-die and his side initially responded impressively as Marc Herbert’s opening try helped them forge 8-0 ahead.

But tries from Ben Galea, Scott Murrell and Peter Fox around the interval sucked the life out of the Bulls’ challenge, and their season.

Free-scoring Warrington ran in 11 converted tries to keep the pressure on Wigan in the chase for the Super League leaders shield.

Ryan Atkins did not do his old club any favours with a hat-trick of touchdowns after grabbing four in his last match against Bradford.

Chris Bridge was also outstanding for Warrington, kicking 10 goals from 10 attempts - including several off the touchline.

Louis Anderson and Matt King each crossed twice for the Wolves who were still missing skipper Adrian Morley, Lee Briers and suspended Mickey Higham, but welcomed back Rhys Evans from his loan spell at Leigh.

Wakefield, who were unable to field any players allocated jerseys numbers one to seven at the start of the season, handed Papua New Guinea international centre Ryan Tongia his debut.

Matt Blaymire, Aaron Murphy and Luke George were injured alongside Josh Griffin to leave departing coach John Kear with more headaches.
