Josh Guzdek scored a hat-trick as Dewsbury Rams dug in for a 26-24 win at Swinton Lions.

The full-back, on his competitive debut after moving from Hull KR, scored his third in the 74th minute to reclaim the lead from the promoted side.

Fellow debutants Ben Reynolds and Paul Sykes also scored tries for Glenn Morrison’s Dewsbury, Reynolds kicking three goals.

But Swinton were good value with former Wakefield Trinity half-back Greg Wilde grabbing a brace and Rob Lever doing likewise.

Atkin slotted two conversions and two penalties but failed to convert either of Wilde’s first half efforts and that proved costly.
