Sykes powers Dewsbury to Lions triumph

Paul Sykes fired Dewsbury Rams to an opening Championship Shield victory over Swinton Lions.

The Rams star crossed for two tries, while also chipping in with six goals.

The hosts led 22-0 at half-time, but held off a fightback from Swinton.

Other Dewsbury try-scorers included Joel Farrell, Lucas Walshaw, Josh Guzdek and Dom Speakman.

Macauley Hallett, Josh Barlow, Mike Butt and Rhodri Lloyd replied with tries for Swinton, Chris Atkin adding four goals.
