Tags service moves online

FARMERS applying for new ear tags for cattle will no longer be able to do so via post as the British Cattle Movement Service moves the application process online.

The British Cattle Movement Service (BCMS) will no longer issue paper application forms to cattle keepers as part of its strategy to reduce the paper burden on farmers and in response to customer feedback.

Paper forms are issued when cattle keepers order new ear tags. BCMS has set a target to raise the level of electronic reporting from the current 75 per cent to 85 per cent by March 2011 and to improve efficiency and data quality.

For keepers without access to the internet, BCMS has launched a self-service phone line on 0845 011 1212 available 24 hours a day.
