Thackeray and Scott at the double for Rams

DEWSBURY RAMS bounced back from defeat to Sheffield to record victory over visitors Workington Town.

Dewsbury made the most of a penalty for a shoulder charge and opened the scoring on six minutes when Shane Grady powered over out wide. Tom Hemingway added the extras from close to touch.

Workington put the resultant kick-off out on the full and Dewsbury took advantage when Anthony Thackeray dummied and twisted his way over to extend the home side’s lead, Hemingway again converting.

The visitors replied after back-to-back penalties allowed Gil Dudson to crash over from close range in the 23rd minute. Kayle Connor converted.

Hyde added a penalty and as half-time approached Dewsbury added a score when Greg Scott finished out wide. The hosts were in the ascendency and extended their lead when Hyde’s quick-thinking, opting to run on a last tackle play, found an overlap allowing Karl Pryce to dive over in the corner for an unconverted try and a 22-6 half-time lead.

Dale Morton squeezed over for an unconverted try and Scott added his second in the corner for a 30-6 lead.

Workington replied with two tries from Andy Morris but Thackeray grubbered through to Hemingway, who passed back and the half-back raced in under the uprights.

Hemingway converted for a 38-16 win.
