Tigers arrival Seymour hoping to atone for troubled times at Hull

NEW signing Brett Seymour has thanked Castleford Tigers for
allowing him to “right the wrongs” of his acrimonious departure from Hull FC.

The Australian scrum-half, 28, has agreed a 12-month deal with the West Yorkshire club having been released by the Airlie Birds in April. A bout of depression earlier this year after a dip in form saw Seymour intend to commit suicide by driving off the Humber Bridge.

Instead, more than twice over the drink-drive limit, he crashed into two parked cars before his car overturned.

He spent three weeks being treated for depression at the Sporting Chance rehabilitation clinic set up by ex-England footballer Tony Adams.

Seymour, who joined Hull from New Zealand Warriors ahead of the 2012 season, was banned from driving for 20 months and fined £925 at Beverley Magistrates Court last month.

Hull – who are chasing Bath’s ex-Leeds Tykes winger Tom Biggs – let him go with 18 months still to run on his £130,000-a-year contract, but he will resume his Super League career at Wheldon Road in 2014.

“I can’t thank Steve Gill (Tigers CEO) and Daryl Powell enough for giving the opportunity to put things right,” said the ex-Brisbane and Cronulla half-back.

“The way it ended at Hull wasn’t nice, but I’ve got things sorted in my personal life which is the main thing.

“I’ve got to prove a point and that’s out on the paddock. I’m healthy, raring to go and ready to be back playing and I’m happy to be here at Castleford.”

Seymour is seen as a replacement for fans’ favourite and England star Rangi Chase, who has been sold to Salford City Reds. But he insisted: “I won’t be looking to fill his boots; I have a different style to him and the coach and I will work on things.”

Castleford have also re-signed Australian half-back/full-back Luke Dorn from London Broncos on a two-year deal. The 31-year-old scored 19 tries in 26 appearances with them in 2008.
