Tigers’ Owen vows to learn his lesson

RUGBY LEAGUE: Richard Owen’s immediate future at Castleford Tigers is not under threat but that could change if further action is taken following his arrest for an alleged assault on Boxing Day.

The 21-year-old full-back appeared before a club disciplinary panel yesterday charged with a serious breach of their code of conduct following a complaint by head coach Ian Millward.

Castleford have kept private what that was and also the sanctions they imposed on the player who admitted his guilt.

Owen said: “My punishment is deserved; I have learned my lessons and will make sure this never happens again.

“I’m even more focused now on restoring the faith that Basil (Ian Millward), my team-mates, the club and fans have in me and will do all I can to make a big impact on the pitch for the club next season.”

However, in a statement, the Tigers added: “The club is also aware of a recent incident involving the player that is the subject of other investigations.

“This matter will be considered by the club, if required, when the appropriate authorities have determined this issue.

“Neither the club nor the player will make any further comment at this time.”
