Toulouse 40 Dewsbury Rams 38: Last-minute kick denies Rams in France after Lewis shines on debut

A successful Josh Lewis conversion just three minutes from time sealed this Northern Rail Cup tie in France after former Sheffield man Craig Cook had earlier burrowed his way over for the vital score.

Australian debutant Lewis had got the ball rolling at the start of the game when he made the try-scoring pass to centre Bruno Ormeno to sail over in the left-hand corner before scoring the second try himself, converting both.

Dominic Brambani spilled the ball when over the line for Dewsbury before the home side roared up the other end for Lewis to feed Ormeno for his second try of the night.

However, the momentum changed dramatically when the Rams struck twice, first through winger Austin Buchanan who raced in from 70 metres before full-back James Craven crashed over ahead of Scott Turner’s try to make it 16-16. Toulouse regained the lead just before the break through Eric Anselme’s try.

Forwards Luke Menzies and James Lockwood went over for the Rams after the break before Buchanan grabbed his second.

Anselme replied before Craven went over for the Rams to give them a 10-point lead with 15 minutes remaining.

But prop Teli Pelo went over between the uprights to reduce the deficit to six before Cook found his way over to set-up Lewis for the decisive kick.
