Video - Hectic Easter schedule welcomed by Huddersfield Giants coach Paul Anderson

FOR ONCE, the Easter period is not something that leaves Huddersfield Giants head coach Paul Anderson too perturbed.

Ordinarily, the hectic schedule of playing Good Friday, Easter Monday and the following Sunday causes disdain among players and coaches alike.

However, having only just picked up their first win of the season against Hull KR, Anderson is actually looking forward to the intensive run of games in order to make up some lost ground.

“You can look at it that way and widen it further by saying Sunday against Catalans is the first game of Easter for us,” he said.

“We’ve four games over two weeks and the scheduling is what it is. But Easter’s not just about those two games - it’s how you handle before and after as well.

“We’ve got Catalans, then Wakefield, Salford and Castleford before Hull FC. It’s a block of five games, to be fair, that can really put us on our way.”

Whether or not former Leeds Rhinos full-back Jordan Tansey will remain with the club after that period remains to be seen.

He made an impressive try-scoring debut in Sunday’s win over Hull KR having joined on a month’s loan from Wakefield Trinity Wildcats and could potentially be a long-term solution with Scott Grix out injured until July.

However, struggling Wildcats have seen new coach Chris Chester take over since that move was completed.

Anderson said: “He’s definitely made an impression with the ball and his skill and he’s an experienced player too. That’s another thing in his favour.

“Going forward let’s take pressure away from him. We know he’s here for a month and he’s a Wakefield player at the end of the day. I’m sure if he’s killing it here Chezzie might turn around and ask why he’s not in their team.”
