“Jerry’s a world-class player and I’m glad we’re looking at him rather than against him,” said Anderson.

“What you need to do is give (England coach) Steve McNamara a ring as Jerry is as good as he wants to be. He’s unbelievable and I do have a joke with him as, aside from his finishing, he brings the ball back for us great and I do say he’ll be a front-row later in his career.

“He carries the ball like a prop anyway, but just runs at a million miles an hour.”

On the team’s performance, Anderson said: “We were pretty average but in patches showed some real brilliance like with Jake Connor’s try and Ukuma Ta’ai’s involvement in that.

“There was some stupidity, too, but we’ve got the two points which I’m really happy with.”

Castleford missed the chance to go level with St Helens in fourth but they were missing captain Michael Shenton (shoulder), second-row Oli Holmes (illness) and winger Justin Carney.

In-form Carney is currently suspended by the club pending an internal investigation after an incident with a team-mate.

He is expected to move on. Castleford will not comment on the matter but, asked if he hopes it will come to a conclusion sooner rather than later, Powell said: “I’d hope so.

“The disciplinary is coming to the point where hopefully it will be finalised soon.

“We’ve moved on. It’s about the players on the field who are important to us and I think the performance showed that the spirit, togetherness and unity is evident for all to see.”

Castleford were made to pay for Mike McMeeken’s yellow card when they conceded four tries.

They got back to 24-20 at one point and Powell said: “When we were a man down it just flipped the game. We were 10-0 up, defending pretty well and causing some trouble in good field positions. But we got peppered in that spell. Huddersfield have two of the best kickers around as they showed with a pretty special display.”
