Video: Injury worries grow for Hull rivals ahead of latest derby date

The Black and Whites sit joint-bottom with just two wins from their opening seven games and their hopes of reviving their season were dealt a major blow with yesterday’s injury bulletins.

Influential scrum-half Marc Sneyd will miss at least five weeks of action after damaging ankle ligaments in Friday’s 20-14 loss at former club Castleford Tigers and prop Chris Green faces a similar lay-off following a knee injury suffered in the same game.

Hull are already without captain Gareth Ellis for another month and centre Kirk Yeaman is doubtful this week, too.

“It’s disappointing for Sneydy as that was looking like his best game yet for us,” said Radford, about their £100,000 buy from Salford Red Devils.

“It sort of sums our luck up at the minute. Chris Green’s going to be a long-term one too – five week plus – but it gives the likes of (ex-Wigan prop) Feka Paleaaesina an opportunity to come back in and he’s the ideal sort of derby-esque player, I suppose.

“And we are going to need a performance from him on Thursday.

“We’ve got adequate cover (for Sneyd) in Jordan Rankin who can move from full-back as Jamie Shaul can obviously jump in at one so we are capable. It’s a really big match for us.”

But Hull’s rivals also could be left short at KC Stadium for different reasons; both James Green and Darrell Goulding were yesterday called up to answer charges by the RFL match review panel and, so, could be banned.

Prop Green has been charged with making a Grade B shoulder charge on his former Rovers team-mate Travis Burns in the second minute of Friday’s stunning win over champions St Helens.

Ex-England centre Darrell Goulding could also face a ban after being charged with a Grade A trip on former Hull star Jordan Turner in the 29th minute of the same game.

Like Catalans Dragons’ Morgan Escare – who has been charged with making a Grade B dangerous contact on Leeds Rhinos’ Rob Burrow – they have until 11am this morning to submit early guilty pleas.

Meanwhile, Rovers chief Chris Chester hopes to have a new deal sorted with captain Terry Campese – the Australian stand-off who has impressed so quickly since joining from Canberra Raiders – in the next few days.

However, the arrival of a new prop after Ryan Bailey’s release last week is unlikely to be as swift.
