They defeated in-form Hull KR 32-14 yesterday to maintain their own impressive run and close to within just a point of third-placed Wigan with just three regular rounds remaining.

But they could also usurp second-placed Saints with a decent win next weekend, too.

“We want to be in that top-four and with four games to go we knew if we won them all we would,” said Anderson.

“We’ve won one and now, if we go to Saints and get another, we could be closer still.

“They’ll be smarting after a couple of losses and Kez (Cunningham) will have them fired up – they’re at home and they are the champions.

“But I’m pleased with what we did against Hull KR. Coming off a week off, it was always a potential banana skin against a team who are travelling really well.

“Obviously they are down in energy after their fixtures (three games in 11 days) and I think we took advantage of that in the end.”

Captain Danny Brough was outstanding as he not only scored his 100th career try but completely bamboozled Rovers with his kicking game.

“How many times have I sat here and talked about that?” said Anderson. “He’s a great player. I’m really pleased he scored that try, too, pushing up in the middle as it’s something we’ve talked about him doing more.”

Hull KR coach Chris Chester – who was in the same Hull FC side as Brough that won the 2005 Challenge Cup – said: “We spoke all week about putting pressure on him but couldn’t do that today.

“I was really pleased with the effort from us but we lacked any real energy this afternoon and came up with a few silly errors.”
