Fierce rivals Wigan Warriors, at an electric Headingley, on a Friday under the lights, first versus second in Super League.

In such grandiose occasions the former England captain, who retires at the end of the season, invariably delivers.

Indeed, it would be no surprise to see the totemic prop guide the leaders home to yet another crucial victory this evening.

Both sides have won their opening Super 8s game – Leeds annihilating Warrington Wolves 49-10 at Headingley a week ago with Wigan having seen off Huddersfield Giants.

However, Peacock knows the importance of building on that further.

“Tough players, good players back up performances,” he said.

“We’ve spoken about that; you aren’t a flash in the pan, you don’t peak one week and be rubbish the next.

“You deliver week after week after week. You ask any sportsperson, that’s the true mark of greatness for a player or an individual or a team, to consistently deliver high performances.

“I think we as a bunch of players are aiming for that – and the coaching staff have created an environment where we can.”

Leeds will pull four points clear of Wigan if they win tonight in what could be the last time Peacock faces them.

However, the visitors will draw level with Leeds if they prosper and he admitted: “At the moment, with the Super 8s, all games feel like four-pointers.

“We are quite used to that at Leeds – the play-off mentality and going into high-pressure situations. We have played in bucket loads of them, so I think it’s one of the areas where we have an advantage over other teams.

“But I have to say, Wigan are used to playing that kind of intense rugby as well.

“When you’ve two teams able to cope with that intensity, you will get a great game. That’s what I expect to play in on Friday.”

Meanwhile, Catalans-bound Paul Aiton has played his last game for Leeds after it emerged the Catalans-bound hooker has dislocated a wrist and will be missing for four months.
