Wakefield left relieved

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats have reached an agreement with HM Revenue and Customs to delay a winding-up hearing.

The Super League club were due in the High Court yesterday having been served an order by the tax authorities.

The Wildcats had disputed the exact amount they had owed HMRC.

A statement from the club said: "If required a date for the hearing will be arranged in due course. The club will fulfil their tax liabilities and continue to work with HMRC to resolve this issue."

The club staved off the threat of a similar order last November after reducing their tax bill from 353,000 to 194,000.

Wakefield have made New Zealand hooker or half-back Jeremy Smith their first signing for 2011, from Salford.

The Wildcats have further added to their squad by signing Hull KR back row Frankie Mariano. The 23-year-old came through the Robins' youth system.
